Love is a choice. It’s not a fairy tale. The reality is things aren’t perfect and never will be (until Heaven). There are times when I will get lonely, sad, and disappointed. But I will also have peace and joy. And in those difficult moments it won’t matter that it’s not perfect, what will matter is that the Lord is by my side.
Love is about waking up every morning and saying, “Yes.” It’s about being docile and trusting the Lord each day to be enough to satisfy my restless heart. And on the days that it feels like He isn’t enough, it’s about remembering that only in Heaven will my heart be completely satisfied.
I will choose to love the Lord each day because I realize it’s not a fairy tale. He is real and His love for me is the same every single day. He is making me into the person He created me to be through the struggles and the joys, the every day encounters. He makes me better, more whole.
Love is not selfish. It means I’m choosing to give up my will, my possessions, my friends, family and the life I’ve known in the world to make more room in my heart for the Lord to dwell. I am choosing to love even when it hurts, even when it’s hard, even when I want to run away. For where would I be without the Lord? As Peter says when Jesus asks the disciples if they will leave Him, “To whom shall we go? You have the words of everlasting life.” (John 6:68)
